Ooooh first post of 2013! What up!!
Hope this new year treats you all well :)
So, to start off the new year I have Imagine Dragon tickets and Gabrielle Aplin tickets. BOOM. Hoping to make some stops at a couple of festivals this year too. So it'll be a full on music fuelled year!
Plus new Paramore album.. Out on 8th April in the UK, in case you were wondering. We should hopefully get a new track from them this month, called 'Now'.
Also, here's hoping that The Black Keys get their new album out this year too!!
But now I'll give you some tracks I've been listening to.
First up was a song I heard on an ad while I was at the cinema, watching Seven Psychopaths which is an AH-MAZING movie...seriously, go see it, funny as hell and I love Sam Rockwell. That is all.
Back at the ranch. So this song was on a advert for OPI nail polish and is the weirdest fucking thing ever. Honest to God, some of the actual comments from others in the theatre were "What did we just watch?" and "What the hell was that?"
See for yourself.
Imagine that on a 30ft screen. Fucking weird. But I really love the track. It's from a couple of French DJ's called C2C and the track is 'Down The Road'.
I totally went and bought it from iTunes when I got home. I can't even explain why I like it but it's definitely an ad you wouldn't ever forget seeing on a massive cinema screen, and the song just makes it so unique.
The next song I'm gonna recommend giving a listen to is from Ellie Goulding. I got her album for Christmas but I've still yet to listen to it. This track was actually used for a movie (as per usual here) called Now Is Good. One of my favourite films of last year, based on the book by Jenny Downham (originally called Before I Die, such an amazing book), the DVD comes out on the 21st January. I've pre-ordered that business.
It's called 'I Know You Care'. Lovely song, it's been on repeat for the last week.
I'm just gonna jump right in to the next song. It's a cover of 'Winter Song', the original of which I absolutely love but then this cover comes along and breaks my heart all over again. Dare I say, I love it so much more than the original or any other covers!
It's done by Natalie Taylor with some help from her husband and his band mates General Ghost and she was so kind enough to offer this cover out as a free download, so happy times for everyone!! You can download the track from here. Which I got from Natalie's Tumblr, which is here. Enjoy.
Last but not least is a song by Dan Auerbach, yes, of The Black Keys. It's from his solo album 'Keep It Hid'. I'm only just getting into this album because I have a hard time even imagining The Black Keys going their separate ways.
There's a couple of his songs that are on constant repeat at the moment but to just chose one I'm gonna go with 'When The Night Comes'. Oh my THIS SONG. I love it. Repeat. Seriously.
So much love for this song.
Anyway, I'm off. Enjoy the new tunes. Hopefully I've made a fan out of someone for these awesome songs.
Happy New Year!

The Black Keys
Tweet
It always surprises me when people tell me that they've never heard of The Black Keys.
My automatic response is to say "Oh, you have, you just don't know it."
They are one of my all time favourite bands and they have featured in my life since their 5th studio album, Attack & Release. But when Brothers was released, that was it. I absolutely loved them.
This year marked the first time that I ever saw them live. And also the second time, cause once just isn't enough. I saw them at the Alexandra Palace in London in February, a much more chill event compared to seeing them a few weeks ago at the NIA in Birmingham. It was so manic and such an amazing night. Every single person there was SO into it, to the point where it got near the end of the gig and we were all just so exhausted from throwing ourselves around. But that's the best feeling, to get home and be so dog bone tired, and deaf, but so relieved that you went. A night I will never forget!
For those that haven't seen them live though, I recommend downloading their Tour Rehearsal Tapes from Amazon for £2.99. You can't beat that price and the tracks are soooooo good. I can't recommend it enough!!
Now for those that have never heard them, you have. Trust me.
Their songs feature a lot in adverts, for them this is their equivalent to radio exposure, since they didn't get that much air play before now. Obviously, now they do. El Camino, their 7th studio album that was released this year, is the most commercial release they've done and has been EVERYWHERE. TV shows, adverts, radio, I even hear a couple of their tracks on the Sunday morning football programme my dad watches. It's insane but this last album has some of the most catchiest songs ever! Whether the band intended it to be that way or not, I'm not sure.
I'm so obsessed with this band that I basically centred my whole dissertation on them.
This is more for those in the UK, but here's an example of where you've heard their music.
Also there have been several movie trailers that have their tracks featured. And then there's the collaboration with RZA called Baddest Man Alive which is being used for the release of The Man With The Iron Fists movie.
I'm not gonna waste my time putting all these videos up here though, so I'm just gonna give you a few of my favourites cause if there's one thing I think you should do in 2013, it's to discover The Black Keys.
Gold On The Ceiling
Howlin' For You
Tighten Up
They really have some of the best videos!
These ones above are the ones that I think everyone should absolutely love. Some other ones that are my favourites are Psychotic Girl, Strange Times, Everlasting Light, which is AMAZING live so I'll find a decent video of it and post it next year ;)
Enjoy The Black Keys and go see them live if you ever get the chance.
This is my last post of 2012. Hopefully I'll find time to blog a bit more next year.
Have a wonderful New Years and I hope that 2013 brings you everything you want and desire!!!
